Cuddling or Holding your cat for 30min every 24 hours grants your cat a buff that enables it to gain Love 30% faster and increases its Happiness. I'll talk to our web admin about that section of the manual. The most recent information I have is what I wrote above, but I will double check just to confirm that I am being accurate.
I don't know if the Development Team has any plans for an alternative to Cuddling/Holding a MegaPuss, but we are aware of the feedback and will take it into consideration for the future.
Ok, I double checked with our Dev Team and need to amend my reply.
Petting, Holding, Cuddling, Vita-Milk and Happiness Vitamins all increase Happiness.
Happiness Vitamins give a temporary boost to Happiness that lasts 5 hours.
Petting, Holding, Cuddling, Vita-Milk and Riding (MegaPuss Only) increase Happiness and grant a 24 hour buff that provides a 30% increase to Love gain. In order to get this buff, they need to be pet/cuddled/held/ridden for at least 30min. Presence of the buff is indicated by a solid Happy Face in the cat's stats (versus a clear Happy Face which means no buff is present.)
I just double checked this with both Equinox and KittyCatS so I know this is accurate, and I apologize for any inaccurate information CSR's may have given previously. Somewhere along the line there was a misunderstanding and CSR's didn't have the most up to date info, which is my responsibility. So my apologies!

Thank you for clearing that up for us Kitten! I also thought the amount of cuddling/petting/riding was 10 minutes so it's good to know it's actually 30 minutes!
You guys are the best at always clearing the info up for us even when there is confusion, so thank you again for that!

Good hearing from everyone, including the "Staff". But I do believe that everyone, well almost, would like the Petting option.
