RE: Place Date Discovered Under Trait Photos
The problem with 'discovery' is the issue of what constitutes such.
From the point of view of the web site and database, it is a simple matter to generate a report showing the first-ever appearance for each trait value, and show the Date and Time, and Breeder's name.
Unfortunately, while extremely accurate, it does not preserve privacy. While, usually, a breeder making a discovery will comment about it in the in-world chat group, or here on the Forums, this is not a rule. Some breeders may not notice they have made a discovery, or may, for various reasons, want to keep their discovery secret.
So, the listings shown in the references posts are based upon PUBLIC disclosure of the discovery. And, of course, the currency and accuracy of those postings depends upon the continued commitment of the OP; which is why we have TWO threads about it. If you look, the earlier thread has fallen out of date since only the OP may update it, and the OP has not been around to do so. Hence, the newer thread.
Yes, it would be nice if information could be consolidated into a single location.
That was the intention of the Wiki we had going a couple years ago. Unfortunately, it, too, died for lack of wide-spread participation.
My suggestion is, rather than ask KittyCats to maintain the information on our behalf, it would be more appropriate for them to add a Wiki section to the Official Site and allow US, and them, if they choose, to create and maintain pages such as the listing of all traits showing additional information such as who publicly disclosed their discovery.
I would hope, over time, that such a Wiki would be both complete and accurate enough that, instead of maintaining their own pages, the web site would simply link to the appropriate Wiki pages. I could see this aiding in several areas, such as: Our Cats, FAQ, and the Manual. In many cases, it would also eliminate the requests for making certain threads Sticky. Those threads could simply be moved to a Wiki page of their own and allowed to age away in the forums.
