and Farleigh doesn't hide anything more recessive than Chocolate Caramel as far as I can see:

Correction to my previous post: There's a chance that Farleigh might be hiding Burmilla - Lilac Shaded because Moniqua would have passed that as a hidden to Ninky, and Ninky would then have passed it as a hidden to Farleigh's father, Joss

So I can only say for sure that Faux Puff Cobalt is dominant to Burmilla - Lilac Shaded

RE: Faux Puff - Cobalt! NEW FUR
Thank you for your input.

I think it is difficult to be sure of anything because there are different possibilities.
You know your cats better, but as an outsider looking at the pedigree, I can't tell what Joscelyn is hiding because a solid cat is not necessarily pure and I have no idea what Moniqua is hiding and could have passed instead of the Burmilla - Lilac Shaded.

I personally do not care much for the concept of solid trait, because a solid trait could be as non-pure as a non-solid trait. It has a chance of a pure but not certainty.

I either try to make a pure with certainty (like mating two hiders together) or I treat my solid trait as a possibility of a pure only, so can't use it to prove a placement.
We all have had traits that were solid for generations that turned out not to be pure.

I also think a solid trait can be confusing in a pedigree when it comes to deciding hiders and that a sure proven hidden recessive trait is more helpful in placing a trait.

Those are fair comments, and to be honest neither of these were my cats. I literally just bought them both about an hour before they had their kitten lol. The cobalt was an Ivy kitty and was in Ivy & Jess' auction last night, and the Burmilla one was a Nellie kitty on a love table at Cat Tales!

Thank you. You could try asking Ivy and Nellie for information about their cats.

RE: Faux Puff - Cobalt! NEW FUR
Kinky, I would breed your cobalt and see if you can find what is hiding under it to get a proof? Beautiful kitty!

It's a good time to explain what a proof is

A proof is a mathematically perfect proof where the possibility of it being correct is 100%. There can be no other alternative and it is 100% certain.

As Sara said, solid, unless proven pure is mostly an auction term. It means solid to five generations that we can read. It does not mean pure or 100% certain. If a trait is Pure it means it is certain with no other possibility. It's rare to see pure traits, when I see them in a pedigree I explain them at auction.

In the charts only a perfect proof is accepted.

Speaking of Pure
I finally made a Pure Faux Puff Cobalt today HeartHeart.
I wish it was not 4 traited Big Grin, but at least it is hiding 8 minimum.
