RE: Pedigree sort
IE may be a pain to work with, and even more so to program for, but it's not "full of security loopholes" .. that's a left-over opinion from the early days, over a decade ago, when Microsoft finally discovered there was an "Internet" which they'd best start supporting, so they threw a few teams (who, in typical Microsoft fashion, didn't talk to each other) at it to cobble something together before Mozilla crowded them completely out.
BTW, while I use Mozillla Firefox, myself, it's not because it's so secure, it's just what I've used. If I were to start over, I'd go with Google Chrome. It's much faster, and vastly easier to program for. Actually, I'm sorta keeping an eye on the new Opera .. which is a close clone Google Chrome .. they're making some nice changes, although I don't see why they're bothering with some of them. Safari is very nice, too; but I don't use Apple much, other than some compatibility testing, usually in a virtual host.
What it really comes down to is IE and Firefox are "dog piles". They're bloated and unfriendly to program for. But, then, I s'pose I could say the same for most of the "web"!
