The box is good enough.
The ONLY requirements are the traits EXACTLY match those in the Kitty-of-the-month posting. Yes, it's possible to get the box from a pair of starters (although, usually, VERY unlikely), no additional generations, or anything else, is needed .. just produce the box, however you can.
